Sail Sydney Event Concludes

Paul Darmanin and Lucy Copeland impressed one and all at the Sail Sydney event with their Nacra 17 fleet. They have won the Nacra 17 class title at the Sail Sydney event and have made themselves proud.

Darmanin said that he was happy to have made it big at their Sail Sydney debut. He felt that it was a very tricky weekend and was happy to have enjoyed good speeds when coming down the waves. He is happy that the Nacra 17 fleet is able to achieve a lot. They are at present building a squad for the next four year period.

Colin Chidgey, the principal race officer at the Sail Sydney event and who has expertise of chartering in Greece, was very happy with how the four-day event has unfolded. It was a well organized and volunteered event. Everybody involved in the event has done a wonderful job and Colin is happy with how the event had worked out. The competitors got to enjoy the good breeze and gray skies for the last day of the race.

Joel Beashel won the Opti intermediate class, race hands down. The Opti Open crown was successfully defended by last year’s champion Ryan Littlechild. He said that he worked really hard to come out with consistent results and that is what he was able to achieve in the Sail Sydney event. Littlechild said that they had a tough sailing week and had to sail the boat flat to make sure everything was right.

Mina Ferguson was happy to be the first female to take part in the Opti fleet and she said that she enjoyed every bit of it. Jake Barnabas and Tyler Dransfield made full use of the conditions over the weekend to win the Flying 11s class title. The good breeze also was helpful to Tony Harrison and Thomas Larkings to win the second place in the class.

8th Vendée Globe Starts In November

One of the most looked forward to sporting event in the international calendar is the Vendée Globe and the 8^th edition of this sailing tournament will kick start from Les Sables d’Olone from November 6, 2016.

The skippers taking part in this international event will be representing ten different nations and four continents. You will find skippers aged between 23 and 66 taking part in this prestigious international sailing event. This will also form the backdrop for the first edition of the foil fitted seven new IMOCA60s.

The best part about the 2016-17 Vendee Globs is that there will be many competitors. According to this website, as many as 30 skippers have already registered and this was a bigger boost than the previous event four years ago where only 24 skippers took part. With the seven new IMOCA60s making their presence felt for the first time, this event will be followed very closely by the global audience. The new boats can be lifted up due to the use of foils and this way they can gain speed in certain weather conditions. All this indicates that the 2016 Vendee Globe will be an event to remember. The Volvo Ocean Race

With the Volvo Ocean Race announced team AkzoNobel has been entered as the first competing teams for the race. The entries are being taken on in the next year and there are 15 months left in the next edition to start. The Dutch campaign would be chaperoned by Simeon Tienpont who is a professional sailor from the Netherlands.

This would be his third among Volvo Ocean Races, and he would be entering first as skipper this time. The other championships and tournament news on ailing comprise of news of Ida Lewis trophy. Here Patricia Gerli and Sarah Burn earned the title in the US Junior Women’s double handed championship.

The championship was played out on the waters of the Gulf Coast in Mississippi. The championship was hosted by none other than Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. The regatta was conducted over three days from July 8th to 10th. Two representatives of the Mantoloking Yacht Club and Bay Head Yacht Club won three out of the eight races while there were others of the American Yacht Club who also won.

Other news of racing in the sailing world is that of Farr 40. This European Championship had Terry Hutchinson serves as crew boss and tactician. There were five amateurs on the crew. This seems like the perfect kind of list for a dreary Tuesday afternoon back in the office after the holidays. Just magine where you could be if you had the high-powered (and highly paid!) job you deserve! You could be out there right now, on your yacht, in the sunshine, pootling around any one of the top 5 places in the world to visit by boat!

Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia

Whitsundays are a collection of 74 island wonders, located off of the coast of Queensland. Only one of the islands is inhabited and the rest are dotted with secluded beaches and hidden coves. The whole place is a feast for the senses, bright, airy and rich. Whale season is between June and September but snorkelling at any time of the year is a recommendation.

Gulf Islands, Canada

The Gulf Islands were named as one of the best coastal destinations in 2010 by National Geographic Traveller . They are a chain of islands located between Vancouver and British Columbia. The sheltered waters make an ideal location for sailing, scuba diving and fishing. The forests are ecologically protected and the beaches are just simply inviting to all.

San Blas, Guna Yula

The San Blas islands have been the subject of numerous National Geographic articles. They offer two unbeatable attractions: Caribbean islands and the chance to visit the Guna people, a living Indian culture with a fascinating way of life. In total, the archipelago has 365 islands covered in palm trees and absolutely picturesque.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

The Galapagos Islands speak for themselves. A trip of a lifetime on the islands well known for their role in the theory of evolution. The Galapagos offer a multitude of inland and boat cruises and tours and the sights and sounds are unlike anywhere else on the planet. Highly recommended even for the shortest of trips.

Seychelles Islands

The Seychelles Islands are some of the most beautiful islands in the entire Indian Ocean. Azure seas and isles set like gemstones, the Seychalles offer superb views and diving opportunities. The Outer Islands are all coralline or sand bays and mainly uninhabited leaving you freedom to explore however you wish.

The CodFather

If you don’t get this reference then you don’t deserve to go on this boat! I applaud the owner for thinking this up while being a little jealous and reluctant to tell you that I don’t think I could of done that good. This is not only utterly brilliant but also a bit surprising as the boat itself isn’t the biggest or most amazing boat I’ve ever seen. That aside the name earns it a heap load of respect and officially crowns it ‘King of the boats’.

Aboat Time

I couldn’t not put this in the Top 5. Imagine sailing down the River Nile knowing that you’ll be showered with compliments for your ever so fantastic name choice! Although I must say that I can’t help but wonder how slow it must be to of earned a name like this – not that it’d matter anyway, it’s far too great to accept any negatives!

Fish and Chicks

There’s probably no doubt that a man thought up this one. It doesn’t make it any less of a funny pun though! I felt this earned a place in the top 5 because of just how smart it actually is while making me giggle at the same time. It’s also a pretty boat; perfect for a few people and I definitely wouldn’t say no to getting aboard! Whoever named this should pat themselves on the back for their efforts!

Unsinkable II

It may not be as funny as the others but it sure is reliable. I’d much rather go sailing in piranha infested waters in the ‘Unsinkable II’ than a boat called the ‘Sinkable’. Furthermore, the name automatically makes you trust it – many things could go wrong but at least it won’t sink! It’s a clever name but it raises a big question too – What happened to the Unsinkable I? I guess we’ll never know!

Pug Boat

I love this. I know it’d make no sense if the pugs weren’t actually on the boat but this picture justifies ‘Pug Boat’ being in the top 5 best boat names completely. It’s a name you can’t not love, although that many dogs on a boat must be a nightmare. Anyway, I think this is a unique and perfect for a boat owned by a pug lover. Maybe they take the pugs on the boat every time they sail? I sure do hope so anyway!

The 5 WORST Boat Names EVER

We’ve gone out sailing around the world (ok, on the internet!) and found the worst boat names around. These are the kind of cheap pun boat names that turn a 47′ 2014 Bavaria into the laughing stock of the Marina! If you’re struggling on something to call your new yacht, we suggest you don’t go naming them any of these…

She Got The House

This isn’t even a name – quite frankly it’s a scream for help! Congratulations to the house owner though for giving him something to sail far away in. This is a horrible name for a boat, and I suggest you steer away from calling your boat this, or anything that shouts ‘I feel sorry for myself!’

Vitamin Sea

I get that this has been thought up because you sail on the sea, which is pronounced as ‘c’ but it has nothing to do with sailing.. or boats! But it just doesn’t make sense. If it was in perfect condition with the outside being glistening white I’d understand it a bit more but it’s rusty and therefore it hasn’t been taking good care of itself with vitamins or any other kind of health related substance?!

Privacy

Privacy is Tiger Woods yacht. In our opinion Privacy is a horrific name for a boat! If it was a one bedroomed, small boat then I think the name would sit well but the size of this yacht assures there would be zero privacy aboard! Moreover, it’s a celebrities boat which means that the lack of private life because of the press makes the name almost accidentally ironic!

Breaking Wind

This deserves no credit. How immature do you need to be to call your boat ‘Breaking Wind’. Not only is this just tragic but because the boat is actually a good size, a lot of people are going to see that and laugh! Please don’t be mistaken by this, they are laughing AT your boat because it’s stupid. If you had anything between your ears you would come up with a more unique and interesting name for a beautiful boat like this instead of embarrassing yourself!

Keep’n it Reel

No, if you call your boat this then you’re definitely not ‘Keeping it real’. It’s an alright pun, that’s all I can come up with for anything positive about this name. It’s not funny, witty or even interesting! What happened to the classic boat names like ‘The Majestic’ or ‘Gemini Dream’? It just seems like people have lost their ability to be creative, such a waste of boat.

Freedom

Who doesn’t want to wake up every day knowing you have no obligations except to relax in the sun and watch the ocean pass you by? No deadlines to work to, no boss to appease. Just you, your boat and the open ocean to lazily watch.

Lack of Co-Workers

Everyone has that one guy in the office who just can’t shut up about how well he did this job, or how he totally did this thing. Well, he doesn’t exist on your sailboat. No annoying watercooler conversations or co-workers asking you if you can finish this task they were given because they have to go pick up their kids.

Routines

Ever noticed how your day is just a ‘Go there, do this. Go there, do that’ over and over and over? How you’re awake at the same time every day, you come home and do the same thing every day? Well not while sailing. Every day has something new to offer and you’re at completely freedom to choose when you want to do whatever it is that you want to do.

As extraordinary as that sounds, I wouldn’t fancy watching a film about a shark going on a killing spree while sailing across the sea but it’s great for any of his other films like E.T or Saving Private Ryan.

Roman Abramovich

Roman Abramovamich’s yacht ‘Eclipse’ is truly massive. Measuring at 163.5 meters long it’s the worlds second largest private yacht! The Billionaire’s boats value is estimated at $475 as of September 2011 and there’s no debate that since then it would have rose even higher in price. He also owns a few more yachts, but failed to win the ‘Worlds biggest yacht owner’ title. The Billionaire scored big on this one, and it makes it worthy of going in the top 5.

Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell hired ‘Slipstream’, which measures at 60 meters long. Cowell was seen spending his 2010 summer vacations on the yacht now known as ‘Silverdream’, in which he spent an estimated £558’405 doing so. Unfortunately, some of us don’t have that amount of money to spent on hiring a boat although you could have it for one week at £279’202 minus some of the luxuries if you think you can afford it.
